Tips for Stress

Two Simple Tips for De-Stressing.

Tip 1 – Think Green!

Bringing living plants into your home or workplace is a good starting point to feeling better about life. But you don’t even have to do that if you are looking to de-stress.

Research has shown that even thinking about a plant helps to bring your heart-rate down – and with it your blood-pressure.

So next time you feel yourself getting stressed, whether it’s at work or at home, take a deep breath and picture a green leaf, a tree, or a blade of fresh grass, in your mind.

You’ll begin to relax straight away.

Tip 2 – Let Go of the Rope!

Here is a simple technique to dissolve the stress of many situations that involve another person.

As soon as you feel your hackles rise because someone is annoying you, or starts shouting at you, make a decision to disengage.

Do this by using your imagination.

In your mind’s eye, see an invisible rope stretching from your hands to the person who is aggravating you. See that person pulling on the rope. And see that you are pulling on this end.

As the image settles in your mind, simply let go of your end of the rope.

See the rope fall slack. Feel the tension in your body dissolve.

The results can be dramatic.

Perhaps the person at the other end will fall over (in your imagination). Perhaps they will look at you non-plussed. Either way, you will find that, by not giving energy to the argument, the friction between you stops.

It takes two people to have a tug of war. And the starting point to removing the stress of arguments is to acknowledge that you are one of the people tugging on that rope, which means you are taking part in the “war”!

Which means you can do something about it. You take control – by letting go!

More often than not, you will find yourself breathing more easily as soon as you do this. As you breathe more easily, you become calmer and less stressed, which is a great starting-point to resolving the issue at hand in a calmer, healthier manner!
